What to Pack

Very soon now, you'll find yourself on the way to our Copeland-Emerson Family Birth Center, about to participate in one of life's greatest miracles - the birth of your child. It's best to pack for the trip to the hospital while you're relaxed and thinking clearly. Here are some suggested items so you'll be prepared when the big day arrives.

For Partner

Your support person will be part coach, part friend, and part helper. Here are some of the things he or she might consider packing in a special bag to help during labor and delivery.

  • Watch with second hand
  • Camera
  • Medical cards and information
  • Coaching guide from childbirth class
  • The birth plan prepared with the doctor
  • Snacks
  • Your address book and cell phone or a pre-paid phone card

For Mom

Naturally, only you can decide exactly what you want to pack. Here are some of the things that other mothers have found helpful.

  • Toiletries: soap, shampoo, lotion, toothbrush, toothpaste, hairbrush, lip balm, deodorant, and makeup
  • CDs or DVDs
  • Sour suckers
  • Focal point
  • Rolling pin or sock with tennis balls
  • Personal care items
  • Nightgowns, robe, nursing bras, underwear, socks, slippers, going-home outfit

For Baby

Your baby will have many new experiences in the first couple of days. Here are a few things to help make sure that your bundle of joy is ready.

  • Outfit for your baby's first picture
  • Car seat in car (Make sure to learn how to use it before the baby is born.)
  • Going-home outfit: undershirt, gown or sleeper, cap
  • Blanket or bunting for cool or cold weather
  • Baby nail file

What not to bring

Jewelry, Cash, credit cards, or any other valuables.
