Childbirth Education

Classes are offered as either weekend classes or five four evening weekly classes. All classes are held in the Wilson Medical Building lower level education room. A tour of Wilson's Family Birth Center is included during the classes.

The cost is $60 for those delivering at the Family Birth Center and includes all materials. For those delivering elsewhere the charge is $70.

Newborn Care-You and Your Baby

This comprehensive class teaches couples what to expect with their newborn. Parents-to be will be prepared for daily care: feeding, sleep, poops, diapering, circumcision and umbilical cord care, bathing and dressing. You will learn what a healthy newborn looks like. We will also discuss temperament, crying and comforting techniques, behavior states, SIDS awareness and prevention, Shaken Baby Syndrome, Back to Sleep, car seat safety and understanding how a newborn communicates. Couples will understand when their baby needs to be seen by their healthcare provider, how to choose a healthcare provider and that each baby and family is unique. The class is interactive and time is alloted for all questions.

There is a $15 fee for this class. Wednesdays from 7:30 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. (Wilson Medical Building, Room A&B)

Sibling Program

Classes are offered for soon-to-be brothers and sisters. The class is designed for 3-10 year olds. Where babies come from, the changes the baby will bring to the home, and how to help with the new baby are some of the topics discussed. Sibling classes meet at Wilson Memorial Hospital.

There is a $5 fee per family. Wednesdays from 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. (Birth Center Atrium)

Breastfeeding success class

Classes will discuss benefits of breastfeeding, positioning, latch-on, and problem solving techniques. The classes will be conducted by an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant at Wilson Memorial Hospital.

There is a $15 fee for this class. Mondays from 6:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.

Mother's Support Group

This group meets the fourth Friday of every month to provide mothers a supportive environment and meet with other moms, ask questions, share ideas and express concerns. The support group is facilitated by a certified lactation consultant with over 25 years of experience in working with new mothers.. There is no fee for the support group.
